On-Trend: Custom Color Cabinetry Adds Drama and Personality in Two Kitchens
While a white kitchen is always a classic, custom color cabinetry makes a bold, beautiful statement. Two recent Alexandria renovations – the first a Rosemont Craftsman and the second a Beverley Hills Colonial – employed deep green and blue to add drama and character to their kitchens.
Our client had a clear vision for this Rosemont kitchen. From the custom deep green and clean lines of the cabinets to the white open shelving and vintage-inspired brass sconces, the kitchen design is both on-trend and classic. Light colors, including the marble-look quartz countertop, handmade crackle backsplash tile, and a simple white hood help balance the depth and weight of the green cabinetry. A microwave and two dishwashers are convenient and hidden. A flush-installed Wolf six-burner cooktop is inconspicuous.
Natural and handmade elements such as the oiled walnut island countertop and vintage wool rugs create a sense of warmth and age in this kitchen. Double ovens, separate paneled refrigerator and freezer columns, and pantry surround a prep sink area. Additional floating shelves and brass sconces showcase the homeowners’ glass and tableware.
In this Beverley Hills Colonial, the beautiful rich navy blue of the base and island cabinetry adds depth while the white upper cabinetry maintains the light open feel of this spacious rear addition. Exposed brick on a former exterior wall (not shown), light fixtures with exposed Edison bulbs, and the stainless steel appliances give the room a subtle industrial look that pairs well with the homeowners’ rustic dining table.
Engineered stone countertops have a clean, bright marble-like look without the fragility and maintenance of natural stone. The sleek lines of the brass faucet and hardware provide a modern compliment to the home’s traditional architecture. Glass-front, interior-lit cabinetry displays china and glassware.
